A flatter day (no hills) without a flat!

After yesterday's excitements and adventures, today I planned a quieter day. So, first stop was to pick up a new tyre on my way out. As this meant that I hadn't done many miles, my rules said no cake was permitted. However, the rules said nothing about Scotch Egg with salad. Yum.

Then, sat in the sun and changed the tyre before setting off again. No real set route today, but went down a few lanes I hadn't been down for a while and with the sun out the South Downs really did look stunning. Objects of note today, a mummy and daddy Goose (geese?) with their four quite large fluffy goslings sitting by a pond and some hang gliders. As geese can be a bit antsy I didn't stop to take a close up pictures of the cute fluffy bundles as I suspected that mummy and daddy goose would have ripped my head off and spat down my neck. Hang gliders from a distance a lot easier to capture.

There was one that had landed in a field at the foot of Devil's Dyke and that must be the dull bit of hang gliding. Packing it all back up again, getting out of the field, back up to the top, unpack it and set it off and jump again. At least there was a car picking him up and he didn't have to carry it back up the slope. That would make whinging about taking a toboggan back up seem churlish.

As I was there, I decided I would take a snip at some of the Dyke for fun, so turned right in Poynings and went up the slip road to the half way point of the first bit of the hill, then couldn't be bothered to go further as it would have meant either a lot of double back or going through Brighton and didn't feel the lure of the big city today. After that, pootled around and did the routine 50.

It's mad you know, this blog thing has no spell checker and I am a rubbish typist. Apolgies for the ones that slip through.

Been checking some of the hotels this evening. It's interesting how differently they respond when I say that I know they pay the booking website a commission so if I book direct can we split the difference? One did, one didn't. The one that didn't would have normally run the risk of my saying nevermind, but as it was the John O'Groats one and there are not many up there, couldn't be too awkward. Particularly as I had had to go searching for a new one anyway as I had managed to book the wrong night previously, jolly good thing I checked or we would have been sleeping in the car at the end of a very long ride. That would not have been good.
